Job Description

Te Haeata/The Opportunity 

The Solution Architect is a Fixed Term Full Time opportuinity until 30 May 2029 responsible for designing and maintaining current and future state solution architectures that enable the delivery of Te Au Reka's data, reporting, analytics, and insights capabilities. The role ensures solution designs align with business needs, programme objectives, enterprise architecture, and the Ministry's technology standards and practices. 

Reporting to the Manager Te Au Reka Data Enablement, the Solution Architect provides architectural leadership across data enablement initiatives, ensuring that information, reporting, analytics, integration, and data management capabilities are designed to support operational, regulatory, performance, and decision-making needs. 

The role works closely with programme delivery teams, business stakeholders, architects, technical specialists, vendors, and implementation partners to develop fit-for-purpose solution designs that support trusted, high-quality information and sustainable long-term outcomes. 

Operating within a complex transformation environment, the Solution Architect balances strategic direction, architectural integrity, delivery requirements, governance obligations, and operational considerations to ensure solutions are scalable, secure, maintainable, and aligned with programme outcomes. 

The role contributes to the successful delivery of Te Au Reka by ensuring that: 

• Solution architectures support the delivery of reporting, analytics, and insights capabilities through the provision of high-quality and accessible information. 
• Data, integration, reporting, and analytics solutions are aligned to business outcomes and operational needs. 
• Data models, information flows, migration approaches, and solution components are fit-for-purpose and support long-term sustainability. 
• Architectural decisions minimise data quality, reconciliation, and information management issues throughout implementation and transition. 
• Security, privacy, governance, and information management requirements are appropriately incorporated into solution designs. 
• Technology, business process, service, and operating model changes are considered holistically within architectural designs. 
• Solution components remain aligned with enterprise architecture, technical standards, and strategic direction. 

The Solution Architect provides leadership and expert advice on solution options, architecture patterns, technology decisions, and implementation approaches. The role evaluates opportunities to improve business outcomes through modern technologies, innovative approaches, automation, and emerging capabilities, ensuring that proposed solutions deliver measurable value while remaining practical and sustainable. 

The role also supports programme governance and assurance activities by contributing architectural expertise to planning, design reviews, risk assessments, technical decision-making, and implementation oversight. 

As part of the Data Enablement team, the Solution Architect plays a critical role in establishing the data and information foundations that enable trusted reporting, meaningful insights, effective operations, and informed decision-making across Te Au Reka.

To be successful in this role you will:  

• Bring proven Solution Architecture experience within large, complex programmes, projects, or transformation environments.  
• Design practical, fit-for-purpose solutions that balance business needs, technical requirements, risk, and long-term sustainability.  
• Build strong relationships with business and technical stakeholders and confidently communicate complex concepts to a range of audiences.  
• Provide architectural leadership and guidance across data, integration, reporting, and analytics initiatives.  
• Work effectively in Agile and cross-functional delivery environments, influencing decisions and driving successful outcomes. 
• Be committed to the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi

Utu ā-tau/Salary 

The appointing salary for this role will be between $118,904 and $163,344 based on skills and experience.
