Job Description
Analyst Level 1 - Permanent Full time, Wellington
Te Haeata/The Opportunity
We are looking for people as passionate about data as we are. In Sector Insights, we are united in a common goal of using data to drive insights to inform decision making by justice sector leaders. We support justice agencies to work together to deliver ambitious results for a fair and safe Aotearoa.
Your role as an Analyst (Level 1) is a catalyst for change and improvement based on empirical data. You will use the data available to you to investigate a myriad of issues facing the justice sector, sometimes with a well-defined hypothesis beforehand, and sometimes to solely explore the data and see what jumps out.
Your natural curiosity and keen analytical skills will illuminate previously undiscovered issues and opportunities for growth; insights, that without this investigation, would remain hidden and the data meaningless. Your role is to communicate the same story, with the same data, across different areas of the business.
Now is an exciting time for you to become part of the Ministry of Justice in Sector Insights as the insights and advice we provide are highly sought after. Our work is characterised by innovation, quality, and impact, and we inform the direction of Justice agencies.
This advertisement pertains to two vacant positions, within the Business Intelligence and Reporting and Advice teams. Our Business Intelligence team supports operational decision-making by enabling efficient data access and is the ‘go-to' for data preparation, manipulation and maintenance. This team requires proficiency in a range of tools, including SQL, SAS and PowerBI. The Reporting and Advice team delivers excellent written advice, primarily for key decision makers such as Ministers, executive leaders and the judiciary, by using both narrative data and storytelling. This team requires strong written and analytical skills, and an ability to present complex information in a way is easily digestible by our audience.
We'd appreciate if you could please indicate your preferred position in your application.
Please note we have 2 positions available.
We'd appreciate in your application which position you would prefer, either within the Business Intelligence or the Reporting and Advice team.
