Wellbeing Lead, Culture & Capability – Te Whanganui a Tara/Wellington
Permanent, fulltime
Te Haeata/The Opportunity
This is a unique opportunity to lead and embed workforce wellbeing at the heart of the Ministry's culture, leadership and operations.
As wellbeing lead you will play an important role in shaping the Ministry's approach to wellbeing and psychosocial risk. Working across People Experience, and partnering closely with Health, Safety, and Security, you will ensure we provide responsive and effective services, strengthen our practices over time, and help clarify our future model.
You will lead a team of two, comprising a Senior Advisor and a Coordinator, to support delivery of the Ministry's wellbeing approach. You will support the team to build strong relationships with providers, manage the employee assistance and Professional Supervision programmes, develop new initiatives, and conduct finance, reporting, communications, and advisory services that support an effective wellbeing function.
This is an exciting role and we are looking for someone who has sound judgement, is able to work at pace, has continuous improvement experience, and understands how to operationalise a Wellbeing Strategy.

- Demonstrated ability to translate strategic priorities into practical, operational plans that drive meaningful and sustainable change.
- Highly developed analytical capability, with the ability to interpret complex and diverse information and provide clear, robust, evidence-based advice.
- Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to clearly and confidently present complex issues to senior leaders and lead calmly through critical wellbeing incidents.
- Proven ability to build trusted relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels, effecting change through others.
- Experience coaching and developing others to build organisational capability and strengthen team performance.
- Significant experience leading culture and/or workforce wellbeing initiatives and programmes at a principal advisory or management level.
- Proven track record of delivering measurable and sustained shifts in organisational culture, particularly in the wellbeing domain.
- Deep understanding of the organisational levers that drive workforce wellbeing (both positive and negative), with demonstrated success implementing innovative, evidence-based strategies.
- Strong understanding of the public sector environment, including machinery of government and public accountability mechanisms.

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The appointing salary for this role will be between $130,129 and $179,192 based on skills and experience.
