Permanent, fulltime
Te Haeata/The Opportunity
The Employment Court is looking for a Court Registry Officer in our Auckland office.
In this role you will work with a team responsible for the successful operation of the Court. You will be coming into a fast-changing environment that will require a high level of agility and resiliency.
The Employment Court is hearing cases throughout New Zealand and your main task will be to facilitate running of the Court hearings. You will be required to travel often and be away from your place of residence for prolonged periods.
Court taking includes:
- Preparing files for hearings and updating files after the hearings.
- Traveling to attend hearings.
At the hearings:
- Introducing Judges (in English and Te Reo Maori).
- Working closely with the Judges in the Courtroom and Chambers.
- Working closely with hearing participants, counsel, and parties.
- Developing working relationship with court staff in the locations where hearings are held.
- General administration of the Court.
The other tasks of court registry officer include but are not limited to:
Case management and customer service: You will be responsible for managing Court cases from filing to disposition which includes:
- receiving and processing documents,
- providing excellent and highly organised case management processes to ensure cases are heard in a timely and effortless manner,
- liaise with legal profession and parties regarding steps in the proceedings,
- providing up to date information to Judges and parties of the status of the cases,
- ensuring case files and electronic case management system are in order and up-to date,
- completing actions required following hearings (including proof-reading of the judgments).
Scheduling: You will be responsible for planning the events for the cases, which includes:
- identify and plan steps in the proceedings towards hearings
- liaising with the Judges and the parties to ensure preparedness for the events
Office administration:
- support the team with general office administration
Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience

Tertiary qualification in law and interest in employment law or relevant work experience is advantage.
You will have strong interpersonal skills that will support your work with the Judges, but also be capable of dealing with legal profession and self-represented parties. An ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds is essential. Well-developed written and oral communication skill is prerequisite.
Full driving license and ability to travel and be away from your home for longer periods is required.
To be successful, you will need to be:
- Detail orientated and observant – the court has many different processes and case information needs to be accurate.
- Self-aware – our participants are unique, and you will be confident working, both individually and as a team, across a range of situations.
- Multi-task –some of our processes are repetitive, but you'll be able to manage conflicting priorities and move from one task to another quickly.
- Willing to learn – legislation and processes in the courts is always changing and you will be able to adapt and maintain knowledge capital.
- Resilience – there are times when working in the courts, you will be working on sensitive cases and sometimes at high volume.

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The appointing salary for this role will be between $60,729 and $80,794 based on skills and experience.
