Job Description
Te Haeata/The Opportunity
We're looking for a proactive, collaborative and strategically minded Finance Business Partner to join our Wellington-based finance team. You will partner closely with a portfolio centred around our Policy Group. You will provide high‑quality financial advice that supports effective policy development and sound financial management of Group finances.
This is a chance to work where your knowledge of the Machinery of Government and financial expertise directly supports decision‑making that impacts New Zealanders. You'll be part of a supportive, purpose‑driven environment with opportunities to influence, problem‑solve, and strengthen financial capability across the Groups.
Based in Wellington and reporting to the Finance Manager, you will work alongside a Management Accountant to provide seamless financial support. You will also be required to mentor and coach the Management Accountants to develop talent and build their capability to deliver outcomes.
We're looking for someone with strong relationship-building skills, a sharp eye for detail, and a passion for continuous improvement.
Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will combine strong technical expertise with excellent communication skills to build trusted relationships with stakeholders and to ensure the credibility of financial information and advice is maintained.
You will have the following skills and experience to be successful in this role:
- Strong analytical, strategic and planning capabilities with a commercially savvy mindset
- Proven ability to build and maintain positive stakeholder relationships and effective networks across and within organisations
- Demonstrated experience in analysing complex technical issues and making informed business decisions with financial impact
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong working knowledge of Government Financial Management legislation, policies, and practices
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Full CA (or equivalent) preferred.

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The appointing salary for this role will be between $112,776 and $154,680 based on skills and experience.
