Job Description
Te Haeata/The Opportunity
The Research Assistant provides support to the Takutai Moana Historians with research tasks to support applications for the recognition of customary rights and interests under the Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) Act 2011 (MACA).
This includes :
- supporting the drafting of historical research for Takutai Moana applications and historical policy advice
- reference-checking and formatting to agreed styles
- proof-reading and ensuring accuracy of spelling and cross-referencing
- compiling and indexing of research data; and
- writing tasks as directed
Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience
In this role you will bring research, analytical and communication skills to support our work with applicants and implementing the Marine and Coastal Areas (Takutai Moana) Act 2011.
- sound knowledge of research theory and best practice
- able to build and maintain respectful relationships with Māori and work as part of a cross-disciplinary team in a collaborative and adaptable manner
- ability to assess complex information and clearly communicate findings
- detail-oriented and committed to maintaining high standards of accuracy and integrity in research and documentation
- an understanding of the machinery of government and government decision-making.

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The remuneration band for this role is $59,729 to $80,794 – while the appointing salary will be based on skills and experience, we are willing to pay higher in the band to attract strong candidates into this role.
