Fixed term role – Office of the Pou Whakatere, Ātea a Rangi – Strategy group
- Principal Advisor (12 months fixed term)
Te Haeata | The Opportunity
The Office of the Pou Whakatere is a small team that supports the Pou Whakatere, Deputy Secretary Strategy and the Ātea a Rangi – Strategy group leadership team. The Office of the Pou Whakatere provides strategic advice to decision-makers on group challenges and opportunities through influence and connection across Ātea a Rangi – Strategy and other Ministry business groups.
The Principal Advisor plays a key leadership, analytical and advisory role in the Office, supporting the Director through day-to-day tasking of team members, and the development and maintenance of supporting systems and processes for the Office. This is a chance to use your advisory experience, trouble-shooting skills and machinery of government knowledge to contribute to improving justice outcomes for New Zealanders.
Ō pūkenga | Skills and Experience
To be successful in these roles, you will have demonstrated senior advisory experience in large and complex organisations, including:
- Advising executive leaders and their teams to enable effective decision-making.
- Working as a strategic influencer across organisational business groups with varying unit goals but shared organisational goals.
- Comfort with ambiguity, a proactive working style, and experience operating in environments with limited direction.
- Experience in supporting a Minister's office and a senior executive's office, or equivalent experience supporting a strategic governance board.
- Communicating with a wide range of audiences on a range of complex issues.
- Leading and coaching advisory and administrative staff for success
- Familiarity working within te ao Māori and understanding of te reo, tikanga, kawa and mātauranga Māori.

Utu ā-tau / Salary
The appointing salary for this role will be between $128,129 and $179,192, based on skills and experience.
