Are you an experienced senior policy advisor, committed to upholding our constitutional arrangements and driven to make a difference in the lives of people across Aotearoa?
Our work in the Policy Group is wide ranging, with opportunities to shape thinking and drive social change across the justice sector and all of government. It's exciting and challenging, with a chance to regularly apply your critical thinking and relationship management skills and learn every day.
We are currently looking for two enthusiastic senior policy advisors to join the Constitutional Arrangements and Treaty team.
The Constitutional Arrangements and Treaty team was formally established in February 2024 and is responsible for our constitutional arrangements related to the foundations and powers of the state (e.g. the Constitution Act 1986).
The team has a strong emphasis on constitutional and treaty issues as well as a focus on developing the national action against racism. It has an important strategic role contributing to the development of constitutional law and policy in a way that reflects te Tiriti o Waitangi. Other emerging issues include considering future developments in our constitutional arrangements and upholding our duty of care as stewards of our constitutional arrangements.
Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience
We are seeking applicants from diverse backgrounds who bring senior policy experience and skills in developing policy. If you have experience as a policy professional and work well as part of a team, then we want to hear from you.
Ideally you will:
- have experience of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Āo Māori
- write well and understand how to take policy through to implementation
- have experience working in partnership with Māori and collaborating with a range of stakeholder
- be a proven problem solver and have the confidence to work with complexity and ambiguity.

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The appointing salary for this role will be between $110,766 and $143,388 based on skills and experience.
