Te āhuatunga a te tūranga/About the Role
The Waitangi Tribunal Unit provides a comprehensive range of services to the Waitangi Tribunal, a permanent commission of inquiry that inquires into and reports on claims submitted by Māori under the Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975.
We are looking for hardworking, talented, and motivated people to join us as Researcher/Analysts. The attached Researcher/Analyst position description spans three teams within the Waitangi Tribunal Unit. We are looking for Researcher/Analysts across the Research and Report Writing teams.
Researcher/Analysts in the Research Services team assist with the preparation of expert research reports for the Tribunal on both historical and contemporary topics. These reports form part of the evidential record for Tribunal inquiries.
Researcher/Analysts in the Report Writing team are responsible for assisting with the drafting of Tribunal reports, providing advice and analysis throughout the Tribunal report writing process, and work closely with the judiciary and Tribunal members, and colleagues in the Tribunal Unit.

Strong writing and analytical skills are required, as is the ability to plan and prioritise work. You will be able to use your initiative and be an effective communicator with a strong focus on customer service, and be able to inspire and build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate an understanding of Te Reo Māori and tikanga.
You will have a tertiary qualification in New Zealand history, Māori studies, public policy, law or other relevant disciplines, and preferably a post-graduate degree or relevant professional experience.

Salary Range: The appointing salary for this role will be between $63,019 and $82,295 based on skills and experience.
