Principal Research Analyst, Waitangi Tribunal Unit

- Use your knowledge of the Treaty sector to support inquiries at the Waitangi Tribunal

- Provide authoritative research advice to presiding officers and Tribunal members
We are currently looking for an experienced research leader to join our research services team. If you are looking for a rewarding leadership role with opportunities to utilise your skills in strategic planning and technical research abilities, then you may be the candidate that we are looking for.
The Principal Research Analyst Research will provide senior professional leadership and mentoring to research team leaders, staff, and contractors. They will prepare research needs assessments and casebook research programmes for historical inquiries on various topics.

To be the successful candidate, you will be able to demonstrate:
- Strategic capability – the ability to lead and design complex work programmes for optimal team performance
- Communication strengths - expertise in building positive relationships and team culture in order to provide advice and communicate to a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Technical leadership – Experience in delivering complex research reports and sound knowledge of research methodology, analysis and research report writing
Candidates will also have an understanding of, and commitment to, the work of the Waitangi Tribunal including knowledge of te reo, tikanga and mātauranga Māori. You will have a tertiary qualification in New Zealand history, Māori studies, public policy, law or other relevant discipline, and preferably a post-graduate degree or relevant professional experience.

The Research Services team supports the Waitangi Tribunal by providing research advice and producing commissioned research reports to advance historical and kaupapa inquiries.
The Waitangi Tribunal Unit provides a comprehensive range of services to the Waitangi Tribunal, a permanent commission of inquiry that inquiries into, and reports on claims submitted by Māori under the Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975.

Salary Range: The appointing salary for this role will be between $100,221 and $130,876 based on skills and experience.
