Te āhuatunga a Te Kooti Whenua Māori/About the Māori Land Court
We are a court of record. Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993 (our Act) recognises the significance of Māori land as a taonga tuku iho of special significance to the Māori people. Our role is to provide a court service for owners of Māori land, their whānau and their hapū which promotes the retention and use of Māori land; and facilitates the occupation, development and use of that land.
The record held by Te Kooti Whenua Māori is taonga tuku iho and the Court is the guardian of the whakapapa of the land, which is the people.
Te āhuatunga a te tūranga/About the Role
We currently have vacancies in our Tairāwhiti Māori Land Court office in Gisborne, and in our Te Waipounamu Māori Land Court office in Christchurch.
Our Pae Manawa are responsible for providing specialist facilitation, assessment, analysis and information services to Māori land owners and customers of the Court to enable them to obtain and access specialist resources and professional advice.
A key function of the role is to facilitate the occupation, utilisation and development of Māori land and assets. This is achieved through proactively developing relationships with iwi, hapū, other Māori organisations, government agencies and relevant external service providers.
Our Pae Manawa also conducts seminars and other educational events to Māori land owners and other customers.

He pūkenga tou/Skills and Experience
To be successful in the role you will have:
- An in-depth understanding of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage the Māori/Crown relationship
- Proven practical experience applying business sense in an environment applicable to Māori Land
- Demonstrated networking, brokering, facilitation and customer service skills
- Extensive knowledge of, and connections with, local Iwi and other Māori organisations and networks
- Previous experience in public relations, customer service or media management roles
- Extensive working experience with Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993 and related legislation
- A good general knowledge of, and respect for, tikanga Māori and a commitment to further develop your knowledge or Te Reo Māori
You will work within a well-established, experienced and vibrant team locally and nationally, and you'll be flexible, calm, resilient and in no way daunted by the court environment.

Salary Range per annum: The appointing salary for this role will be between $71,720 and $93,658 based on skills and experience.
