About the Joint Venture Business Unit
In September 2018, a Joint Venture of ten government agencies was established to eliminate family violence and sexual violence in New Zealand. The Joint Venture Business Unit supports the Joint Venture to operate, including by being the Government's lead advisor on family violence and sexual violence from a whole system perspective. We lead with influence and collaboration to provide space, focus and momentum for government, Māori, communities, NGOs and private organisations to work together.
We work with our partners to provide strategic policy advice and recommendations to the Joint Venture and to Government, including on the strategic direction and actions to take. We ensure our advice is based on best practice, evidence and includes the voice of lived experience. We establish and maintain relationships with our partners, designing and developing better solutions that bring about transformative change and establishing effective governance. We monitor and report on the performance of the family violence and sexual violence system. We role model the change we wish to see and are a facilitator for Māori - Crown partnerships.
About the Role
The Chief Advisor – Family Violence and Sexual Violence is a key role of the Joint Venture Business Unit's Management Team and is responsible for providing trusted advice and support to the Joint Venture Business Unit Director and Leadership Team. They work in close collaboration with the Chief Advisor – Māori Engagement and support a flexibly resourced team to deliver the Business Unit's work programme.
The Chief Advisor will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team focused on partnerships, investment and funding advice and policy design and recommendations. This position reports to the Deputy Director – Family Violence Sexual Violence. The position does not have any direct reports but will be responsible for providing guidance and advice to team members.
This position is responsible for leading on significant engagements that will help the Joint Venture achieve transformative change to eliminate family violence and sexual violence, especially through working in partnerships across the family violence and sexual violence sector.
The Chief Advisor will provide strategic policy advice, which may include drafting of Cabinet papers, legislation and relevant policies. The Chief Advisor will provide thought leadership by sharing specialist Family Violence and Sexual Violence knowledge and expertise across the Joint Venture Business Unit and the broader Joint Venture. In addition, the Chief Advisor will ensure that advice is evidence based and best practice and brings in the voice of citizens.
Education, Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience with working on family violence and sexual violence issues, with a preference for having worked within the sector.
- A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience.
- A demonstrable commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Establishing and maintaining a range of effective internal and external business relationships and networks.
- Ability to read, understand and interpret complex documents, including legislation, financial, numerical and business information.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
- A strong understanding of the research and evidence base associated with family violence and sexual violence.
- Good networks and connections across the family violence and sexual violence sector.
- Proven experience in working with senior managers in a large, complex organisation.
- Demonstrable policy or public-sector experience and/or demonstrable experience in a relevant field.
- Proven experience in providing intellectual and professional leadership.
- Understanding of Public sector systems and processes, including accountability requirements and the use of performance information to inform decision-making.
Salary range: $165,394 - $233,498
