We are looking for junior level lawyers for our Manukau and Waitakere PDS offices. Applicants should have completed (or be eligible to complete) duty lawyer training and have obtained or be close to obtaining PAL 1 approval. This is not a graduate level role we are looking for lawyers with at least 6-12 months relevant litigation experience. They should have a strong desire to develop their careers in the specialist area of criminal advocacy. The successful candidates will be joining one of two teams – Waitakere and Manukau. The Manukau team is the largest of the PDS offices - with around 55 legal and support staff. It represents clients at the Manukau, Papakura and Pukekohe District Courts, as well as the higher courts. It is a busy and sometimes demanding environment with variety and challenges, and you will join a diverse and supportive team in one of the fastest growing communities in the country. The Waitakere team, which is based in Henderson, is a supportive and welcoming team of around 25 legal and support staff, with a range of experience. The office provides an opportunity to develop and share your criminal defence skills in a busy and sometimes challenging environment. The PDS is part of the Ministry of Justice and the wider justice sector. The ministry provides centralised business services, infrastructure and support to the work of the PDS.

Salary range: $59,497 - $83,996
