Summer Interns (Fixed Term), Waitangi Tribunal Unit, Wellington
The Waitangi Tribunal inquires into historical and contemporary Treaty claims through a broad range of inquiry programmes and processes.
The Waitangi Tribunal Unit supports the Waitangi Tribunal in completing its district inquiry programme; determining urgency applications; conducting urgent and remedies inquiries; implementing its kaupapa inquiry programme and addressing remaining historical and contemporary claims.
We are looking for hardworking, talented and motivated people to join us as interns over the summer period.
Through this role in the unit you will gain insight into the work of the Waitangi Tribunal, the Ministry of Justice and the wider public service. You will have the opportunity to support experienced researchers, facilitators, report writers and/or registry staff as part of your internship.
The internships are from November 2018 to February 2019. The internships are paid and the exact start and finish dates are flexible. The positions are full-time.
We are keen to receive applications from those with a tertiary degree, or working toward a tertiary degree. In particular we are seeking those studying History, Indigenous Studies, Māori Studies, Law or Policy although other disciplines are also considered.
Ideally you will also be able to demonstrate the following either through your studies, work history, or a combination of both:
- An understanding of Tikanga and Mātauranga Māori
- Knowledge of Treaty of Waitangi issues, both historical and contemporary
- Ability to prioritise work and effectively self-manage
- Professionalism in your work behaviours and the quality of your work
- Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills
Starting salary $42,744
