Office of Treaty Settlements, Wellington
The Ministry of Justice provides a range of justice services around New Zealand. We have more than 3000 people working across 120 locations around the country, all working towards our vision of a safe and just New Zealand.
At the Office of Treaty Settlements there is an opportunity for historians to be a part of New Zealand's future - one that's watched by the rest of the world.
We're looking for hard-working, talented and motivated people to join us as we negotiate settlements of historical Treaty claims and build positive relationships between the Crown and Māori.
If you're a team player who would like to see the results of your work first-hand, the Office of Treaty Settlements, based in Wellington, invites you to apply for a position as a Research Assistant. This is a 6 month fixed-term position.
You'll be part of a team of historians that provides historical advice to inform decisions on applications for customary rights under the Marine and Coastal Area Act 2011 (MACA) and works with iwi groups to negotiate and develop meaningful redress packages for claimants.
To be successful in this role, you will have an eye for detail and a high level of accuracy. You will know how to research in archives and libraries, work effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders, be well-organised, enjoy working on multiple projects at once, and work well under pressure. A relevant tertiary qualification or significant progress towards one is preferred.
It's fascinating, fast-paced work, so if you're adaptable and results-driven then the Office of Treaty Settlements is the place for you.
For tracking purposes, all applications must be submitted via our online process.
Applications close 22 June 2018
