National Pathology Advisor, Ministry of Justice (NZ wide)

The Ministry of Justice provides a range of justice services around New Zealand. We have more than 3000 people working across 120 locations around the country, all working towards our vision of a safe and just New Zealand.
We are currently seeking an experienced Pathologist to provide specialist Pathology advice to the Chief Coroner and the Ministry of Justice. The location for this position can be flexible depending on the successful applicant.
About the role:
The Coronial Services of New Zealand serves the community through investigating circumstances and causes of death in a respectful and professional manner. The findings of these investigations will be used to make recommendations for the improvement of public safety and to prevent deaths in similar circumstances.
The Coronial Services Unit (CSU) was established for the delivery of support to the Chief Coroner and the Coroners, to enable them to fulfil their legislative responsibilities, functions and duties. Your role would be required to chair the Ministry's Coronial Clinical Governance group as well as be a member of the Ministry's Coronial Governance group.
Time commitment and term
The role would have an estimated time commitment of one day per month and may be required to attend meetings via audio video link where required. $240 per hour / anticipated annual remuneration of $23,000.
The term will be for an initial period of two years.
Skills and experience required:
- FRCPA-qualified (or international equivalent)
- Recent experience or knowledge in the areas of coronial and forensic pathology
- Annual Practicing Certificate desirable
- May have previous experience in an advisory role
- Knowledge of, or an interest in, New Zealand's coronial system
